Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This 18th century Danish chest of drawers embodies Scandinavian country style with its charmingly rustic character. Constructed from pine, the piece displays a warm beige painted finish with a weathered appearance that reveals natural distress. The structure incorporates a serpentine front profile fitted with three graduated drawers, each furnished with ornate cast brass pull handles and matching decorative keyhole escutcheons. Architectural definition comes from the moulded top edge and substantial fluted side pilasters, while the whole stands upon turned bun feet that elevate the lower plinth. Practical proportions measure 81 cm high, 104 cm wide, and 56 cm deep. Placed in a living room, hallway or bedroom, this commode provides useful storage while serving as a distinct statement piece. The neutral yet warm tone complements a range of interior palettes, offering a soft contrast against minimalist modern settings or blending naturally into traditional country schemes. The generous top surface suits lamps, mirrors, or decorative accessories, while the deep drawers accommodate household items or clothing with ease.

FAQs

Originating in the 18th century, Scandinavian Rococo commodes adapt French design principles with regional restraint, featuring serpentine fronts, decorative brass hardware, and painted timber finishes.

These storage pieces were primarily constructed from native softwoods like pine or hardwood like oak, fitted with cast brass handles and coated in natural earth-pigment paint.

Authentic examples display hand-dovetailed drawer joinery, hand-planed back panels, historical brass escutcheons, and natural wear patterns across high-contact surfaces.

A painted commode serves as a functional focal point, pairing seamlessly with neutral wall palettes, contemporary artwork, and minimal decorative ceramics.

Dust gently with a dry microfibre cloth and maintain a stable ambient climate to prevent wood movement, avoiding chemical polishes that degrade original paint layers.
