FAQs

Eighteenth-century farmhouse benches were utilitarian seating crafted for rural dwellings, featuring simple construction, heavy timber tops, and angled splayed legs built for everyday functional use.

These benches were primarily crafted from local softwoods such as pine, incorporating thick plank tops joined to robust wedged or pinned timber legs.

Authentic period benches display natural hand-planed surfaces, irregular wear patterns, historical timber shrinkages, and remnants of original paint or wax finishes within the grain.

Place a rustic bench in an entryway, dining room, or along a hallway to introduce natural texture and historic structure alongside clean modern elements.

Dust the surface regularly with a soft cloth and apply a neutral beeswax polish periodically to protect the wood while keeping the piece away from direct heat sources.
