London City Antiques has dated this Georgian Oak Dresser Base to the 18th Century.

Beneath are three drawers across the upper section, each with decorative moulded fronts, traditional brass swan-neck handles and attractive brass escutcheons. The central section incorporates two further generously proportioned drawers, flanked by cupboards on either side. The beautifully panelled cupboard doors open to reveal useful storage compartments with internal shelves.

Particularly attractive are the finely moulded drawer fronts, decorative brass fittings and elegant proportions, all characteristic of traditional Georgian country furniture. The dresser retains its original feet, an especially desirable feature that adds to its authenticity and historical appeal.

Originally designed for use in a Georgian farmhouse or country house, dresser bases provided essential storage for household linens, cutlery, tableware and other domestic necessities, while their substantial tops offered a practical surface for displaying household items.

Today, this splendid antique oak dresser base would make an exceptional sideboard in a dining room, a characterful storage cabinet in a kitchen or an impressive statement piece in a hallway or living room. Its generous proportions, beautifully aged oak and rich colour make it equally suited to traditional country interiors and contemporary homes.

A particularly appealing example of Georgian oak furniture, offering excellent storage, attractive original features and over 240 years of history.
