This early 20th century sideboard adopts a Gothic Revival style, manufactured in the United Kingdom around 1900. The piece comprises a solid pitch pine body with a warm brown finish and a sycamore top. The symmetrical arrangement includes a central arched cupboard door decorated with a pointed Gothic arch panel, flanked by six horizontal drawers fitted with small brass drop handles. The entire structure rests on a solid plinth base at the floor level. The sideboard measures 80 cm in height, 153 cm in width, and 54 cm in depth. In a contemporary home, this storage unit functions as a sideboard in a dining room, living area, or hallway. The six drawers and central cupboard provide enclosed storage for tableware, linens, or household items while presenting a traditional architectural profile.

FAQs

A pine dresser base is a low wooden storage unit originating in the nineteenth century, designed with a flat surface top above a combination of drawers and cupboards for kitchen or dining room organisation.

These pieces were typically constructed from solid Scots pine or imported Baltic pine, often featuring hand-dovetailed drawer joints, solid pine backboards, and brass or iron hardware.

Authentic examples feature hand-cut joinery, subtle wood shrinkage along construction joints, original metal fittings, and continuous wear patination consistent with age along drawer runners and touchpoints.

A pine dresser base functions effectively as a dining room buffet, living room credenza, or entryway sideboard, providing warm timber tones that contrast balanced contemporary artwork or ceramics.

Maintain the wood finish by dusting regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and applying a clear beeswax polish annually, while avoiding placement near direct heat sources or damp environments.
