Lee Hawkins Antiques & Interiors has dated this Welsh Oak Cwpwrdd Tridarn to the 18th Century.
Slender turned supports frame the panelled back and narrow display shelf, while a centrally positioned shield-shaped feature bears carved initials above the date 1743.

The middle section incorporates two cupboard doors with shaped applied mouldings flanking a decorative central panel, while pendant finials and further turned details provide restrained ornament. Below are two drawers above a substantial double-door cupboard, offering generous and genuinely useful storage. Panelled sides and extended stile feet complete the traditional construction.

The oak is particularly appealing, ranging from warm golden-brown tones to deeper aged colour across the mouldings and upper section. Worn edges, historic surface marks, grain variation and age-related movement have created the depth and patina that collectors seek in early country furniture.

Welsh cwpwrdd tridarn cupboards are an important and distinctive form of British vernacular furniture, and examples retaining strong architectural form, characterful surfaces and dated detail have enduring collector appeal. While antique furniture should never be considered a guaranteed financial investment, pieces of this individuality and regional character are increasingly difficult to replace.
