Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This 18th-century French Provincial dresser base is constructed from warm brown oak with brass hardware, displaying a French Chateau design vibe. The piece has a rectangular plank top above a frieze with three small drawers, including a central drawer with a diamond-shaped brass keyhole plate flanked by two drawers fitted with drop handles. Below are two cupboard doors with raised and moulded panels, decorated with carved floral sprays and framed by long brass escutcheons and vertical reeded timber trim. The base rests on shaped cabriole feet beneath a serpentine apron carved with floral motifs, and measures 104 cm high, 145 cm wide, and 53.5 cm deep. Suitable as a sideboard or storage cabinet, this dresser base integrates into living rooms, dining rooms, or hallways to provide surface space and enclosed shelving. The interior contains a single shelf, while the exterior surfaces show cleaned and waxed timber with visible grain. The construction incorporates panelled sides and a moulded front edge, offering traditional storage for domestic interiors.

FAQs

French Provincial furniture from the late 18th century adapts Parisian styles, such as Louis XV and Rococo, into practical hardwood pieces for provincial homes, featuring organic floral carvings, serpentine aprons, and sturdy proportions.

These pieces were primarily crafted from solid native hardwoods like oak, walnut, or fruitwood, constructed using hand-cut mortise and tenon joinery, pegged timber joints, and fitted with cast brass hardware and elongated hinges.

Authentic pieces display hand-planed back panels, irregular dovetail joints on drawers, historical hand-carved details, and genuine age-related wear around hardware mountings and along the base timber.

Position the piece in a dining room, hallway, or kitchen as a foundational anchor, contrasting its rich carved wood texture against neutral walls, contemporary art, or minimal ceramic vessels.

Dust regularly with a soft dry cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year, avoiding placement near direct heat sources or in damp conditions to prevent timber movement.
