This Edwardian mahogany chest of drawers displays a warm brown finish and stands 91 cm high, 99 cm wide, and 45 cm deep. The piece comprises an upstand gallery at the back, fluted pilasters flanking the sides, and a shaped apron along the base. Three graduated drawers are fitted with small dark drop handles. Marks and knocks appear on the top surface, along with minor ink stains inside the drawer linings, consistent with age and use. Traditional proportions and rich timber tones suit this chest for a bedroom, hallway, or living space as a practical storage unit. The compact footprint fits into alcoves or against smaller walls while offering surface space for lamps or decorative objects. Smooth-running drawers provide everyday accessibility for linens, clothing, or household items. Natural wood grain patterns lend character to domestic interiors seeking period English country house charm.

Edwardian furniture, produced between 1901 and 1910, is characterised by a departure from heavy Victorian ornamentation in favour of lighter, classically inspired forms. Craftsmen frequently used rich woods like mahogany and satinwood, incorporating neo-classical proportions, understated carving, and functional storage elements.

Primary timbers included solid and veneered mahogany, oak, and walnut, often combined with secondary pine or ash for interior drawer linings. Hardware typically consisted of cast brass or stamped metal drop handles, keyhole escutcheons, and iron lock mechanisms.

Authentic Edwardian pieces generally display hand-cut or early machine-cut dovetail joints on the drawer construction, authentic wear around handles and drawer runners, and natural oxidisation on the timber underside. The presence of period brass locks and subtle classical mouldings also helps confirm age.

A period mahogany chest serves as a grounding focal point when positioned against neutral walls or contemporary wallpaper. Juxtaposing rich polished wood with modern art, ceramic lamps, or modern lighting creates a balanced, layered aesthetic in hallways, living rooms, or bedrooms.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a clear beeswax polish once or twice a year to preserve the wood grain finish. Position the piece away from direct sunlight, radiators, or strong humidity fluctuations to prevent timber movement, warping, or finish fading.
