Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This small chest of drawers is a Georgian style piece from the 1920s, made from mahogany with a warm brown colour and a polished finish. The compact furniture stands at 56 cm high, 27 cm wide, and 29 cm deep, containing four stacked drawers with polished brass drop handles on shaped plates. Additional visual details visible on the wooden cabinet include a shaped bracket foot apron at the base and simple mouldings framing the top and edges. The trinket storage unit works well at the side of a chair to house small objects that are otherwise scattered around a room, fitting neatly into studies, bedrooms, or living spaces as a functional bedside or side table. The rich warm colour of the mahogany works together with the bright brass hardware, offering practical surface space on top for small display items.

FAQs

Historically, miniature chests of drawers were constructed as apprentice pieces to demonstrate cabinetmaking skill, or as desktop storage for small valuables, jewellery, and writing materials.

Traditional mahogany chests feature hand-cut dovetail joints on the drawer linings, solid brass handles, and timber drawer runners crafted from durable hardwoods.

Look for signs of hand-planing on the back panel, subtle variations in dovetail joints, age-appropriate patination on brass hardware, and natural timber shrinkage along the grain.

Small mahogany chests function as compact bedside tables in smaller bedrooms, as structured desktop organisation in a study, or atop a console table to add vertical interest.

Keep mahogany furniture away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent timber shrinkage, and apply a high-quality beeswax polish periodically along the grain with a soft cloth.
