A superb quality Victorian burr walnut and marquetry credenza, circa 1870, of impressive proportions and exceptional decorative appeal, featuring beautifully figured veneers, intricate inlaid decoration, ornate gilt metal mounts and finely painted porcelain plaques.
The whole is further enhanced by decorative gilt metal mouldings and finely detailed classical ornamentation.
The central section features a pair of cupboard doors, each veneered in beautifully figured burr walnut and framed by elaborate gilt metal borders with decorative floral corner mounts. The doors are particularly distinguished by their oval porcelain plaques, finely painted with charming classical cherubic scenes and enclosed within ornate gilt metal frames.
Flanking the central cupboard are elegant open display sections, each incorporating three shaped shelves with decorative pierced brass galleries. The shelves are backed by mirrors, creating an attractive display area for porcelain, glassware or decorative objects.
The central doors and outer display sections are divided by finely carved and turned columns with decorative gilt metal capitals and foliate detailing, adding to the architectural quality of the piece.
The credenza stands on a substantial shaped plinth base, beautifully decorated with geometric parquetry and crossbanding, completing its impressive and highly decorative appearance.
