Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Victorian oak chest of drawers comes in a warm brown colour with a solid timber finish. The rectangular piece stands 120.5 cm high, 110.5 cm wide and 56 cm deep, featuring a moulded top edge, a plain plinth base and brass keyhole escutcheons on the drawer fronts. The arrangement comprises two short upper drawers above four full-width long drawers, all fitted with small turned wooden pull knobs. The surfaces show minor bumps and marks commensurate with age and use, whilst the construction remains very solid with smoothly running drawers. Placed in a bedroom or hallway, this traditional English country house storage unit suits domestic settings needing classic period character.

FAQs

A Victorian 2 over 4 chest of drawers features two short drawers positioned side by side over four full-width long drawers, a popular design configuration introduced during the 19th century to maximise bedroom storage organisation.

Victorian cabinetmakers predominantly used solid hardwoods such as oak, mahogany, or pine, incorporating hand-cut dovetail joints, solid timber drawer linings, turned wooden handles, and iron or brass locks.

Authentic period chests exhibit hand-cut dovetails with minor variations, hand-planed timber back panels, natural age-related wood shrinkage, original turned drawer knobs, and brass or iron keyhole escutcheons.

A Victorian oak chest can be modernised by pairing warm wood tones with neutral wall palettes, textured linen soft furnishings, modern ceramics, and understated contemporary artwork.

Maintain antique oak by dusting regularly with a clean, dry cloth and applying a clear beeswax polish once or twice a year, keeping the timber away from direct heat sources and excessive moisture.
