Why Sellingantiques dated this piece to THE 1920s:
Machine-cut bandings and fine line inlay: this method fixes manufacture to after 1900.
Lion-mask ring handles in patinated brass: style that fits interwar neoclassical revival tastes.
Moulded square tapering legs with spade feet: Sheraton revival styling from the 1920s.
Smooth polished top with gentle surface wear: decades of gentle household use.

This is an independent date report produced by Sellingantiques using its own proprietary system. The process uses the photographs shown on this page. The system is never told the date the dealer has declared. This report shows that the two dates corroborate.

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This antique sideboard follows the Grand Regency style, constructed from figured mahogany in a warm brown tone with satinwood inlay and brass hardware. The bow-fronted body holds a central drawer flanked by two side cupboards featuring oval inlaid panels, brass lion-mask ring handles, and square tapered legs. The timber displays visible natural grain figuring, polished surfaces, and light border stringing. Measuring 91 cm high, 118 cm wide, and 53 cm deep, this furnishing provides practical surface space and concealed storage. Positioned in a dining room, hallway, or living space, the sideboard functions as a serving station or display surface. The cupboards conceal internal shelving accessed via the original key, while the central drawer accommodates smaller tableware or linens. The timeless design integrates comfortably into both traditional and contemporary interiors, offering durable surface utility alongside decorative period character.

FAQs

Originating in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, the bow-fronted sideboard features a convex curved front designed to optimise space while offering storage for dining service items.

These pieces typically feature flame or figured mahogany veneers applied over solid timber frames, often accented with satinwood or boxwood stringing and brass lion-mask ring handles.

Authentic examples demonstrate hand-cut dovetail drawer joints, original locks, solid secondary timbers such as oak or pine, and natural hand-cast brass hardware.

Position the sideboard in a dining room, hallway, or living space paired with contemporary abstract artwork above and minimalist ceramic vessels on top to balance historical proportions.

Maintain the finish by dusting with a soft microfibre cloth and applying a high-quality beeswax polish annually, keeping the piece away from direct sunlight and radiator heat.
