This Edwardian traditional British fine art painting by Percy Lancaster depicts a rural harvest scene. The watercolour on paper shows figures working with a horse-drawn cart amidst rolling hills, dense trees, and a cloudy sky. The composition employs a palette of green and blue, framed by a wide white card mount and encased beneath protective glass within a silver-toned wooden frame that has simple linear corner mitre mouldings. The painting measures 94 cm by 115 cm in total framed size. Ideal for an English country house aesthetic, this framed artwork suits placement above a sideboard in a living room, dining room, or hallway. The traditional pastoral theme complements classic interior styles and adds natural charm to domestic walls. The visible brushwork captures atmospheric light across the rural landscape, offering a window into early twentieth-century British countryside life. Hanging securely from household picture hooks, it provides an authentic focal point for collectors of traditional watercolours.

British landscape watercolour painting developed significantly during the 18th and 19th centuries, capturing rural vistas and natural light through transparent pigment washes applied to paper.

Traditional watercolours comprise water-soluble pigments on heavy cotton or linen rag paper, mounted with acid-free board and protected under glass within a timber frame.

Authenticity is verified through original artist signatures, paper watermarks, handling of brushwork, physical signs of age like gentle paper toning, and documented provenance.

Display the artwork as a focal point above a sideboard or fireplace mantel, combining classic figurative subjects with modern neutral wall colours for balanced visual contrast.

Position watercolours away from direct sunlight and humid environments, utilising UV-filtering glass and archival mounting materials to prevent fading and foxing.
