FAQs

Originating in 18th-century Britain during the Georgian era, a bowfront chest features a curved convex front facade designed to add visual softness and space efficiency to bedroom storage furniture.

Cabinetmakers predominantly utilised solid mahogany alongside flame mahogany veneers for exterior surfaces, often featuring pine or oak secondary woods for drawer linings, hand-cut dovetail joints, and decorative wood inlay.

Authentic Georgian pieces typically feature hand-sawn drawer bottoms, hand-cut asymmetric dovetail joinery, original brass or turned wood handles, and subtle wear patterns consistent with natural age around keyholes and feet.

Anchor a contemporary hallway or bedroom by pairing the warm wood tones with neutral wall colours, topped with a minimalist table lamp, modern art, or contemporary ceramics to create a balanced contrast.

Preserve the original finish by dusting regularly with a soft dry cloth, applying a high-quality beeswax polish twice a year, and placing the piece away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent timber warping or veneer cracking.
