Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This impressionist watercolour and pen and ink painting depicts a bouquet of wildflowers in a ceramic jug, signed with an indistinct signature in the lower right corner. The artwork is presented on paper within a giltwood frame featuring carved acanthus leaf decoration and ornate mouldings, finished in gold tones. The ceramic jug displays a blue and white glaze with hand-painted floral motifs. Measuring 56 cm high, 49 cm wide, and 4 cm deep, this piece comes in good condition. Suitable for an English Country House interior scheme, the painting hangs well above a sideboard, on a living room wall, or within a hallway to bring a botanical touch to the space. The framed artwork mounts easily on a wall using standard picture hanging hardware, adding a traditional aesthetic to residential rooms.

FAQs

Impressionist floral still life paintings focus on capturing light, atmospheric movement, and spontaneous brushwork rather than rigid botanical detail. Artists during this period favoured loose washes of colour, visible paper textures, and informal arrangements of garden or wildflowers in domestic vessels.

Works from this period typically utilised heavy rag paper treated with water-based pigments and gouache details. Frames were frequently carved from wood or constructed with cast plaster ornament over pine, finished with gold leaf gilding and protected behind sheet glass.

Authenticity is evaluated by examining natural paper ageing, watermark signatures on the paper substrate, artist signatures or monograms, and period-correct frame construction. Microscopic inspection often reveals authentic pigment layer sedimentation and historical framing techniques.

An ornate gilt-framed floral watercolour creates visual contrast when hung against contemporary neutral walls, dark matte backdrops, or structured panelling. Placing the artwork above modern low-profile furniture or integrating it into an eclectic gallery wall creates a balanced decorative aesthetic.

Watercolours must be kept out of direct sunlight to prevent fading and preserved behind UV-filtering glass with acid-free matting. Humidity levels should remain stable to prevent foxing or mold growth on the paper, while gilt frames require gentle dry dusting with a soft brush.
