Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This large 19th-century English country house dresser base comes from a manor kitchen, made from pine with a muted green painted frame and a natural wood scrubbed timber top. Four inline drawers run along the front length, fitted with small round brass pull knobs and supported on straight square legs. The piece displays a rustic farmhouse style, measuring 83 cm high, 242 cm wide, and 53 cm deep. In a modern interior, this long storage piece works well along a hallway wall, in a kitchen, or in a dining room as a sideboard for serving or storing table linens and tableware. The sturdy surface offers space for lamps, books, or decorative displays.

FAQs

Historically, a dresser base formed the lower functional section of a kitchen dresser, utilised for food preparation and storing utensils, featuring drawers and sometimes lower cupboards or open shelving.

Country dresser bases were typically constructed from native softwoods or hardwoods such as pine, oak, or elm, frequently finished with milk paint, linseed oil, or left raw for scrubbed timber surfaces.

Authentic period pieces display hand-cut dovetail drawer joints, natural shrinkage along timber boards, original brass or turned wooden knobs, and layered wear to the painted surface.

A long painted dresser base serves effectively as a hallway console, a dining room server, or a functional island alternative in a large kitchen setting.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth, avoid placing the timber near direct heat sources, and apply clear beeswax paste sparingly to unpainted wood sections to maintain moisture balance.
