Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This early 19th-century country house dresser base comes in a dark green painted pine and oak construction with a natural timber top. The piece displays four upper drawers fitted with round brass knobs, positioned above four panelled cupboard doors with brass keyhole escutcheons, all set on a straightforward plinth base. Subtle distressing shows along the edges and surfaces, revealing lighter tones beneath the dark green paintwork. The structure measures 96 cm high, 254 cm wide and 56 cm deep. In a contemporary home, this long sideboard suits a living room, dining room or large hallway for storage and display. The surface holds lamps, books or decorative objects, while the interior accommodates tableware, linens or household items behind the cupboard doors.

FAQs

A dresser base is a long, low cabinet originally designed for food preparation and storage in traditional British country kitchens, typically featuring a row of drawers above enclosed cupboard doors.

Traditional dresser bases were commonly constructed using regional softwoods such as pine or hardwoods such as oak, finished with milk paint or eggshell, and fitted with brass or timber hardware.

Authentic period pieces often exhibit hand-cut dovetail drawer joinery, irregular hand-planed backboards, genuine timber shrinkage around panel joints, and natural surface wear surrounding handles.

Position the dresser base along a dining room or hallway wall, layering the natural timber top with ceramic vessels, table lamps, or framed artwork to balance historical texture with modern decor.

Dust surfaces regularly using a clean, dry microfibre cloth, avoiding harsh liquid cleaners that might compromise the painted finish, and apply clear natural beeswax to unpainted wood sections annually.
