Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This nineteenth-century French rustic farmhouse planter takes the form of a circular vessel fashioned from copper with a patinated coppery-brown surface. The body displays a distinct hammered texture, complemented by a vertical band secured with hand-riveted seams and a horizontal row of rivets running around the lower base, alongside a slightly flared rim with projecting side tabs. It measures 36 cm high, 55 cm wide, and 55 cm deep. Such a utilitarian container brings organic warmth and historic character into contemporary interior spaces when positioned on a fireplace hearth to hold potted plants, logs, or kindling, or displayed freestanding within a hallway or living area as a decorative accent piece.

FAQs

During the nineteenth century, large riveted copper vessels served practical household and agricultural purposes, including laundering clothes, brewing, and heating water over open hearths.

Antique copper pots were typically constructed from heavy gauge sheet copper, shaped by hand, and joined using heavy copper rivets along vertical seams and reinforced rims.

Authentic pieces display hand-hammered surface textures, irregular hand-set rivets, copper brazing marks, and natural age-related verdigris or oxidation rather than uniform machine finishes.

These vessels function as striking indoor planters for large house plants, hearthside log containers beside fireplaces, or decorative floor-standing storage solutions in living spaces.

Dust regularly with a dry cloth and avoid harsh chemical cleansers to preserve the historic surface patina; if used for living plants, line the interior to protect the metal from damp soil.
