FAQs

A bachelors chest is a compact piece of 18th-century furniture featuring a shallow depth, multiple drawers, and often a pull-out brushing slide originally designed for folding and maintaining garments.

Georgian cabinetmakers primarily used dense Cuban or West Indian mahogany for the exterior facade, paired with secondary timber such as pine or oak for interior drawer linings and hand-cut dovetail joints.

Authentic Georgian examples feature hand-cut dovetail joinery, original brass swan-neck handles with cast backplates, bracket feet, and evidence of hand-planed surfaces on the reverse and drawer bases.

This versatile proportioned piece serves effectively as a bedside table, hallway side cabinet, or living room accent when paired with contemporary lighting and structured artwork.

Maintain mahogany timber by dusting regularly with a dry cloth, applying beeswax along the wood grain twice yearly, and positioning the item away from direct heat sources and bright sunlight.
