Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Rococo Revival king size bed head dates from 1920. Constructed from burr walnut and walnut, the piece displays a warm brown colour with a rich book-matched wood grain, a serpentine arch top rail, and a central carved floral crest. Additional visible details include a simple reeded edge running along the sides and top, alongside a central winged cherub decoration. The dimensions measure 129 cm high, 153 cm wide, and 7 cm deep. Positioned in a bedroom, the headboard fixes to the wall with four screws and suits a five foot divan bed of choice. The design creates a French Chateau aesthetic while maintaining a slim profile that takes up minimal space.

FAQs

Burr walnut furniture is characterised by section slices cut from tree burrs, creating complex swirling grain patterns that were widely utilised from the late 17th century through to the early 20th century.

These pieces usually feature thin, carefully book-matched veneers of burr walnut bonded onto a solid wood substrate, often finished with hand-carved cresting along the top rail.

Authentic examples exhibit symmetrical veneer patterns, slight natural age imperfections in the wood surface, original mounting points, and a gradual natural fading or patina across the carved details.

Pair the rich timber tones with neutral crisp linen bedding and understated wall shades to balance historic woodwork with modern, clean-lined aesthetics.

Dust the surface regularly with a dry cloth and apply a clear beeswax polish sparingly, taking care to avoid excess moisture or heat exposure which can lift the veneer.
