Description

A superb Art Deco satinwood and walnut chest of drawers, this was made in England and dates from the 1930’s.

It is a great size and is of lovely quality. This is tall and slim, there is lots of storage inside the generous drawers. It sits on a plinth base, and it has beautifully crafted steel and Bakelite handles. This is predominantly satinwood, with lovely burr walnut banding around the edges. There are very beautiful colour tones and grain patterns all over.

We have had this recently stripped and re-polished to a very high standard, the condition is superb for its age.

We also have the matching pair of bedside cabinets that came with these, seen listed under our other items for sale.

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Art Deco emerged in the 1920s and 1930s, characterised by sleek geometric shapes, streamlined forms, and the use of luxurious materials such as exotic veneers, metals, and contrasting inlays.

These pieces typically feature solid timber frames finished with decorative wood veneers like satinwood, walnut, or birds eye maple, often applied in symmetrical patterns over sturdy cabinet-making frameworks.

Authentic pieces generally display period-specific hardware, traditional joinery methods inside the drawers, and genuine veneer work rather than modern printed laminates.

Pair the piece with neutral walls to let the wood grain stand out, and style the top minimally with a geometric mirror or a single metallic accent piece to complement its architectural lines.

Keep the wood away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent veneer cracking, and clean surfaces periodically using a soft, dry cloth without applying harsh chemical polishes.
