Heal & Son was established in London in the early 19th century, becoming a prominent force in British design, particularly through the Arts and Crafts movement and the promotion of modernism in the 20th century.

Authentic pieces from this period typically utilise solid quarter-sawn oak, hand-cut dovetail joints in the drawers, and traditional timber framing to ensure structural longevity.

Authenticity is usually confirmed by the presence of a makers mark, paper label, or stamped signature embedded within the drawer framework or backing timber.

Pair the warm wood tones with minimalist decor, neutral walls, and modern lighting to create a balanced contrast between historic craftsmanship and contemporary aesthetics.

Maintain the timber by dusting regularly with a soft, dry cloth and occasionally applying a quality beeswax to nourish the wood, avoiding direct sunlight and excessive humidity.
