Description

This rare beauty was woven in North-West Persia around 1890 yet feels so contemporary. Interestingly, although it has the structure and central medallion one sees in many Heriz carpets from that region, I hesitate to ascribe that title to it. Why? There are a few good reasons. First, the wool quality is very soft and velvety with a lovely sheen that one does not see in Heriz carpets. Second, the sky-blue field is extremely rare. Indeed the entire colour palette with subtle greys, sapphire blues, dark terracottas and sharp pinks haven been combined in striking ways that are a feast for the eye, but also very 'un-Heriz-like'. Finally, the delightful terracotta border is filled with palmettes and leaves drawn in quite a naturalistic fashion. In any event, this is a supremely decorative carpet in a great size that would work in so many settings both contemporary and traditional. The light blue field feels fresh and modern, and the design although quite formal, could fit in anywhere. Professionally cleaned, and with lovely soft velvety pile, this carpet is tactile as well as decorative.

We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

North-West Persian carpets are characterised by bold geometric medallions, stylized floral motifs, and rich, saturated colour palettes originating from weaving centres such as Heris, Sarab, and Bidjar.

These carpets are traditionally hand-knotted using locally sourced wool piles on cotton foundations, utilizing natural vegetable dyes for coloration.

Authentication involves examining the knot density, irregularities in hand-spun wool, natural dye oxidation, and the construction of the selvages and fringes.

An antique carpet can anchor a contemporary room by providing textural contrast and historical depth against minimalist furniture and neutral walls.

Preservation requires regular gentle vacuuming without beater bars, professional hand washing periodically, and keeping the carpet out of direct sunlight to prevent dye fading.
