The Animalier movement emerged in 19th-century France, focusing on the realistic and dynamic depiction of animals, particularly predators and hunting dogs, by sculptors who mastered anatomical precision.

Most antique bronze sculptures from this period were cast using the lost-wax method, followed by meticulous hand-chasing of the surface details and the application of a chemical patina.

Authentic pieces typically feature a cast signature or foundry mark, crisp anatomical details without modern casting seams, and a stable, multi-layered historical patina accumulated over decades.

Place the sculpture on a bookshelf, mantelpiece, or executive desk where its dark metallic tones can contrast against neutral backgrounds or traditional wooden furniture.

Dust the sculpture regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth and occasionally apply a very light coat of microcrystalline wax to protect the patina from moisture and handling.
