Cold-painted bronze refers to items cast in bronze and then painted with several layers of dust paint or oil-based colours, a technique popularised by Austrian foundries in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

The Franz Bergman foundry in Vienna was the most prominent and prolific producer, often marked with an urn stamp or a B within a flask.

Authentic pieces often exhibit characteristic craquelure, natural paint loss revealing the dark patinated bronze underneath, and specific foundry marks or Bergman amphora stamps.

These small-scale collector items are best displayed on a gentlemans library desk, within a glass cabinet, or upon a curated bookshelf alongside leather-bound volumes.

Dust gently with a soft, dry brush and never use water, solvents, or metal polishes, as these will strip the delicate, original cold-painted finish.
