Secure Transit

FAQs

A banjo barometer is a type of weather-measuring instrument housed in a distinctive elongated wooden case shaped like a banjo, which became highly popular in British homes during the 19th century.

Traditional construction typically involved solid timber frames such as oak, mahogany, or rosewood, combined with brass bezels, glass dials, and delicate paper or porcelain scales.

Authenticity is usually determined by examining the hand-carved woodwork, the ageing of the brass components, the typography on the dial, and traditional joinery methods on the reverse of the case.

It functions effectively as a focal point on a gallery wall or within a hallway, adding textural warmth and historic character to both traditional and modern minimalist spaces.

Keep the instrument away from direct sunlight, extreme temperature fluctuations, and excessive moisture to protect the wooden finish and the delicate internal mechanics.
