An aneroid barometer is a device for measuring atmospheric pressure without the use of liquid, typically utilizing a small, flexible metal box called an aneroid cell that expands or contracts with pressure changes.

Victorian barometers commonly feature turned wooden surrounds made from oak, mahogany, or walnut, paired with brass bezels, silvered or enameled dials, and glass face covers.

Authentic pieces typically exhibit period-appropriate typography on the dial, hand-turned timber construction with patination, traditional brass fittings, and mechanical aneroid movements consistent with late 19th-century manufacturing techniques.

An antique barometer can be mounted on a neutral wall as a focal point or grouped with other vintage instruments and framed art to create an eclectic gallery wall with traditional character.

Dust the wooden surround gently with a dry, soft cloth and avoid using harsh chemical polishes on the timber or brass components to preserve the original surface patination.
