This small half-length watercolour portrait depicts a Regency gentleman wearing a charcoal grey coat with an M notch in the lapels over a white waistcoat, frilled chemise and stock. Sporting fashionable side-whiskers, his hair is rumpled on top in the a la Titus style, which dates the artwork to the period 1800-1810. The painting is housed in a warm brown rosewood frame with visible dark grain patterns and a narrow gilt inner slip. A part label remains on the backing board. The entire framed piece measures 22 cm high and 18 cm wide. This framed portrait is suited for display in a gentleman's library, study or on a narrow wall space in a hallway. It brings period character to traditional interior schemes and integrates easily into gallery walls alongside other small artworks.

Georgian portraiture emphasized realistic yet refined likenesses of individuals, capturing sitters in formal attire such as cravats and tailored coats reflecting early 19th-century British fashion.

Artists frequently rendered small-scale portraits using watercolour paint on paper or card, subsequently mounted behind glass within timber frames.

Authentic pieces feature period-specific costume details, hand-painted brushwork, natural age-related patination on the frame, and period backing methods.

Small framed portraits work effectively when arranged within a gallery wall grouping, placed on a deep window sill, or set upon a bookshelf alongside contemporary decor.

Keep watercolours away from direct sunlight and high humidity, utilise UV-protective glass, and preserve original timber frames and backings.
