Description

A beautiful antique mahogany serpentine cabinet on legs in the Georgian style. This was made in England, it dates from around the 1900-1910 period.

It is of superb quality and has a very smart design. There is a panelled central door flanked by two dummy doors with beautiful flame mahogany grain patterns. This sits on tapered legs terminating in spade feet. The top is cross banded, there are also three drawers in the top with beautifully turned handles and fine, hand cut dovetailed joints. The colour tones and mahogany grain patterns are stunning throughout.

We have had this recently re-polished, the condition is excellent for its age, with just some extremely minor wear remaining beneath the polish here and there.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Serpentine furniture features a distinctive undulating front with a convex centre flanked by concave curves, popularised during the 18th century for its elegance and sophisticated craftsmanship.

Authentic pieces typically utilise solid mahogany and flame mahogany veneers applied to secondary hardwoods like oak or pine, constructed using traditional dovetail joints and hand-turned wooden knobs or brass hardware.

Authenticity is assessed by examining the hand-cut dovetails, the depth and warmth of the patination, shrinkage cracks in the timber, and the use of period-appropriate construction methods rather than modern fixings.

Pairing dark wood antiques with neutral walls, minimalist lighting, and contemporary art creates a balanced, layered aesthetic that highlights the rich grain of the timber.

Maintain antique timber by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent cracking, dusting with a dry microfibre cloth, and occasionally applying natural beeswax to nourish the wood.
