Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This pair of single bedsteads and ensuite bedside cabinets dates from 1900 in the French Chateau style. Constructed from warm brown oak with white marble tops on the cabinets, the set displays deeply carved floral relief panels on the arched headboards and footboards, scroll feet, and moulded cornices. The beds measure 129 cm high at the head, 72 cm high at the foot, and accept standard single mattresses measuring 90 cm by 190 cm, while the cabinets measure 66 cm high, 50 cm wide, and 38 cm deep. In a contemporary home, these unrestored pieces suit a guest bedroom or master suite, accommodating twin mattress setups or pairing harmoniously within a traditional interior scheme. The timber grain exhibits natural variation, complemented by raised mouldings, relief carvings along the drawers and panels, and curved uprights.

FAQs

French Provincial single bedsteads typically display regional hand-carved detailing, relief panels featuring floral motifs, and structured arch tops on headboards and footboards. Often crafted from solid native hardwoods like oak or walnut, these frames incorporate side rails joined by traditional hardware.

These pieces were predominantly manufactured using solid oak or walnut, featuring framed timber panels and hand-cut joinery. Companion bedside cabinets frequently incorporated inset marble tops to protect the wooden surface from washbasin water and hot items.

Look for mortise and tenon joinery, asymmetrical hand-carved carvings, original metal side-rail cast iron brackets, and evidence of hand-planed timber on the unexposed reverse sides of headboards and drawer backs.

Position the pair side-by-side in a guest room spaced by a shared bedside cabinet or arrange with both matching nightstands for symmetry. Use understated crisp linen bedding in neutral tones to balance the textured wood carvings.

Dust timber carvings regularly with a soft dry brush and apply a high-grade beeswax paste annually along the grain. Clean marble surfaces using a pH-neutral cleaner and immediately wipe away spills to prevent staining or etching.
