The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

During the 18th century, pine was frequently utilised as an accessible, domestic timber for everyday furniture in provincial households. Often finished with layers of paint to protect the wood and provide a decorative surface, these chests served as essential bedroom storage.

Authentic pieces are typically constructed from solid pine timbers featuring hand-cut dovetail joints on the drawer construction. The surfaces are layered with historical pigmented paints or varnishes that age naturally over time.

Key indicators of authenticity include hand-forged iron or brass fixings, visible tool marks, hand-cut dovetailing, and the characteristic crazing and patina of aged paint surfaces rather than modern factory distressing.

This piece works effectively as a functional focal point in a contemporary bedroom or hallway, where its dark finish and aged texture provide a grounding contrast against neutral plastered walls.

Maintain stable indoor humidity levels and keep the piece away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent the pine from drying out. Clean only with a dry, soft cloth, avoiding commercial solvents or abrasive polishes that could damage the historic paint layer.
