The quality is excellent, they are a great size to be used as decent sized bedside chests, or as side chests / tables around the home; they are very functional. The mahogany has a lovely colour tone and patina, they have high quality brass mounts and handles.

We have had them recently re-polished, the condition is excellent for their age. There are a few very small marks and indentations here and there beneath the polish, commensurate for age.

Campaign chests originated during the late 18th and 19th centuries, designed specifically for British military officers on campaign who required robust, dismantling furniture that could withstand arduous travel.

These pieces are typically constructed from dense hardwoods like mahogany or camphor, featuring flush-fitting brass handles, reinforced brass corners, and often built in two modular sections to facilitate transport.

Authentic pieces generally exhibit period dovetail joinery, hand-turned brass screws, original recessed hardware with patination, and construction marks indicating handcrafting rather than modern mass production.

The clean lines and functional metal accents of campaign furniture allow it to function effectively as bedside tables or accent chests in both traditional studies and contemporary minimalist bedrooms.

Preservation requires maintaining stable indoor humidity levels, avoiding direct sunlight to protect the wood colour, and occasionally applying appropriate wax polish while avoiding harsh chemical cleaners.
