Description

A really fabulous Bordjalou Kazak, from the Caucasus mountains with great colour and fantastic condition. The fleecy pile glows with natural dyestuffs and the 'eye-dazzler' border grabs the vision and swings it up and down with irrepressible energy. A real showstopper of a rug and one which I have not found for a long time. Full of whimsical, tribal details including dogs, goats and birds. A small date panel with 1270. The green is ideal, mottled with a dozen different shades. A corroded light purple. A dark tan and a gorgeous mid blue with just a hint of green in it. A few knots of Fuchsine dye along the top guard border suggests a date of around 1860

Price includes modest repair work

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Kazak rugs are hand-knotted carpets traditionally produced in the southern Caucasus region, characterised by bold geometric medallions, striking primary colour palettes, and heavy wool pile construction.

Authentic pieces typically feature hand-spun wool warp, weft, and pile, dyed using natural vegetable and mineral colourants to achieve rich, saturated hues that develop a distinct patina over time.

Authentication involves examining the weave density, irregular abrash colour variations, natural materials, hand-spun characteristics, and the specific structural characteristics of the foundation knots.

Such textiles function as foundational statement pieces, grounding neutral modern schemes, contrasting cleanly with minimalist furniture, or layering over larger sisal flooring for added texture.

Preservation requires regular gentle vacuuming without rotary brushes, professional specialist cleaning when necessary, rotation to ensure even wear, and avoiding prolonged exposure to direct sunlight.
