Description

A very stylish Geo III sofa. The frame is mahogany with brass spade feet.

It is currently fitted with a smart linen loose cover that is in good condition. Under the cover it has been reupholstered with black and white ticking. The stuffing is all horse hair and the squab cushion is feather.

The back is removable (not sure why) and it has its original catches to secure it.

The frame is good and solid and the upholstery, ticking and loose cover are all in good condition.

It could be used as it is or it would be an easy job to have it covered in a fabric of your choice.

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Georgian seating typically features classical proportions, elegant curves such as scrolled arms, and structural refinement influenced by the architectural trends of the 18th century.

These pieces were traditionally built with sturdy timber frames such as mahogany, oak, or beech, utilizing hand-tied coil springs or webbing and traditional stuffing materials like horsehair before being upholstered.

Authenticity is assessed by examining the joinery, timber ageing, hand-forged fixings, and traditional upholstery techniques, noting any historical repairs or alterations.

Pairing a historical sofa with contemporary lighting, neutral walls, and minimalist side tables creates a balanced interior that highlights the antique craftsmanship without overwhelming the space.

Protect the fabric from direct sunlight to prevent fading, vacuum regularly using a low-suction attachment, and consult a professional conservator for deep cleaning or structural restoration.
