Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Victorian English country Welsh dresser is made from dark brown oak with visible grain and brass hardware. The upper section consists of an open tiered plate rack featuring a fret-carved and scalloped frieze beneath a dentil cornice. The lower base contains three central stacked drawers flanked by two side cupboards with fielded panels, secured with visible brass H-hinges and keyhole escutcheons. The furniture piece measures 205 cm high, 131 cm wide, and 47 cm deep. In a contemporary home, this traditional storage unit provides practical display and organizational space in a kitchen, dining room, or hallway. The open shelves hold plates, ceramics, and decorative items, while the enclosed cupboards and drawers store tableware and linens out of sight. The deep dark wood finish suits rustic, traditional, and heritage-inspired interior schemes.

FAQs

Originating in rural Britain, an open plate rack dresser is a functional storage piece combining a lower sideboard base with an upper structure of open shelves designed to display crockery and tableware.

Traditional 19th-century dressers were constructed primarily from native solid oak, incorporating hand-cut dovetail joints, fielded door panels, and cast brass hardware such as H-hinges and drop handles.

Authenticity can be verified by examining hand-planed backboards, irregular dovetail joints in the drawers, natural shrinkage gaps in the timber, and historical wear around the drawer runners and handles.

An antique oak dresser can be styled in modern spaces by displaying neutral ceramic stoneware or glassware on the open shelves, balancing the visual weight of dark timber with contemporary surrounding decor.

Antique oak surfaces should be dusted with a dry lint-free cloth and treated periodically with a beeswax polish to preserve the patina, avoiding harsh liquid cleaners or placement near direct heat sources.
