Apostle spoons are eating or ceremonial spoons featuring finials shaped like the Apostles, typically manufactured in England and Europe from the 15th to the 17th centuries using latten, a brass-like alloy.

These spoons were predominantly cast from latten, a durable copper alloy similar to brass, or occasionally from pewter, silver, and base metals depending on the status of the owner.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-hammered or cast characteristics, surface oxidisation consistent with age, heavy patination, and frequently feature makers touchmarks or hallmarks struck into the bowl or stem.

Such pieces are typically displayed within glazed cabinets, mounted in bespoke shadow boxes, or placed on specialist display stands to highlight their historic craftsmanship.

Preservation requires stable humidity levels, avoidance of abrasive cleaning agents or metal polishes that remove historic patina, and handling with clean cotton or nitrile gloves.
