A Welsh dresser is a traditional piece of furniture originating in Wales, traditionally combining a base of drawers and cupboards with an open plate rack superstructure above for displaying crockery.

These pieces were typically constructed from solid native hardwoods such as oak or elm, featuring hand-cut dovetail joints, pegged framing, and backboards made of plank timber.

Authentic items display period-correct joinery such as hand-cut dovetails, tool marks from historic planes, natural timber oxidisation, and original hardware fixings or appropriate replacements.

Pair the warm timber tones with minimalist ceramics on the open shelves to create a balanced focal point that anchors a contemporary kitchen or dining space.

Maintain the timber by keeping it away from direct heat sources and sunlight, dusting regularly with a dry cloth, and applying natural beeswax periodically to nourish the wood.
