Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

FAQs

A stick barometer is a meteorological instrument enclosed in a long wooden case that measures atmospheric pressure using a column of mercury, which became popular in domestic settings during the nineteenth century.

Traditional stick barometers typically feature a hardwood case, most commonly mahogany, oak, or rosewood, housing a glass tube filled with mercury, alongside ivory, bone, or porcelain scales and brass fittings.

Authentic period pieces usually exhibit hand-engraved or handwritten paper scales, mercury-filled glass tubes with cistern covers, hand-cut brass screws, and traditional timber patination consistent with nineteenth-century manufacturing methods.

An antique barometer functions effectively as a vertical wall accent in spaces such as a home office, hallway, or study, complementing traditional woodwork and historical design schemes.

Barometers should be kept away from direct sunlight and major heat sources to protect the timber case and paper scales, and must be handled by professionals when relocating due to the presence of liquid mercury.
