FAQs

A Georgian mahogany chest of drawers is a period storage item produced during the reigns of Kings George I to IV, characterised by durable tropical hardwoods and functional compartmentalised storage.

These pieces typically feature solid mahogany or mahogany veneers over secondary softwoods, joined with hand-cut dovetail joints on the drawer constructions and fitted with brass hardware.

Authenticity is assessed by examining the hand-cut dovetailing, timber shrinkage patterns, original backboards, hand-forged or cast brass fixings, and natural oxidisation within the drawer interiors.

Pair the warm wood tones with minimalist decor, neutral walls, and modern lighting to create a balanced contrast between historical craftsmanship and contemporary design.

Maintain the wood by avoiding direct sunlight and excessive humidity swings, applying occasional natural beeswax polish, and dusting gently with a dry microfibre cloth.
