Edwardian furniture, spanning the reign of King Edward VII from 1901 to 1910, frequently draws inspiration from earlier Georgian and Sheraton revivals, characterised by lighter proportions, refined stringing inlays, and elegant tapering legs.

Master craftsmen typically utilised solid mahogany or satinwood framing, accented with contrasting wood veneers such as boxwood or ebony stringing, hand-cut dovetail joints on drawers, and cast brass handles or galleries.

Authentic items generally exhibit period-appropriate secondary timbers in drawer linings, hand-cut dovetail construction, subtle patination on the timber, and historically accurate brass hardware or screw types.

Such a substantial case piece functions effectively as a focal point in a dining room or formal hallway, styled minimally with modern abstract art or clean-lined ceramics to create a balanced contrast.

Maintain the timber by dusting regularly with a soft, dry cloth, applying traditional beeswax periodically to nourish the grain, and avoiding placement near direct heat sources or strong sunlight.
