A stick barometer is an early form of mercury barometer housed in a long, narrow wooden case, first developed in the late 17th century and widely refined during the Georgian period for domestic weather forecasting.

These instruments typically feature a dense hardwood case such as mahogany, frequently accented with veneered panels, brass finials, scale plates made from silvered brass or ivory, and a glass tube containing liquid mercury.

Authentic pieces generally exhibit period construction techniques, hand-engraved silvered brass dial plates bearing maker signatures, old crown glass tubes, and appropriate patination on the wood surfaces consistent with eighteenth or early nineteenth-century manufacturing.

Mounting the vertical instrument on a focal wall within a hallway, study, or living room allows its slender silhouette to function as both a historic artefact and a striking linear art piece.

Preservation requires keeping the instrument away from direct sunlight, extreme temperature fluctuations, and moisture. Due to environmental regulations and the presence of liquid mercury, specialist transport and professional restoration are recommended if relocation or servicing is necessary.
