Khorassan carpets originate from north-east Persia, historically centred around Mashad, and are known for their fine wool, sophisticated dyeing techniques, and intricate floral or pictorial designs.

These carpets are typically hand-knotted using hand-spun wool for the pile and foundation, employing vegetable dyes such as madder and indigo to create lasting colour depth.

Authenticity is assessed through the regularity of the knotting on the reverse, the use of natural organic dyes, characteristic wool quality, and traditional regional motifs specific to the Khorassan province.

An antique rug serves as a foundational anchor in a room, grounding modern minimalist furniture or adding textural warmth and historic contrast to eclectic spaces.

Preservation requires regular gentle vacuuming without beater bars, professional hand-washing by textile conservators, and avoiding direct, prolonged exposure to harsh sunlight to prevent dye fading.
