Description

A smart and extremely well made antique mahogany and leather sofa. This was made in England, it dates from around the 1920-30’s.

The quality is outstanding, this has a beautiful design with deep buttoned leather upholstery. The solid mahogany frame has sweeping curves and lovely carving, it sits on solid brass casters.

We have had the wood stripped and re-polished, the leather has been revived and hand coloured to enhance the patina. The condition is excellent for its age, there is just some very minor old surface wear and patina remaining here and there on the leather.

Width – 60 inches , 152 cm

Depth – 29 inches , 74 cm

Height – 36 inches , 90 cm

Seat height – 18 inches , 46 cm

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Button-tufted leather seating gained immense popularity during the Victorian era, evolving from earlier grand upholstery techniques into a symbol of status and comfort in domestic parlours and libraries.

These pieces typically feature a solid hardwood frame, such as mahogany or oak, combined with hand-tied coil springs, horsehair stuffing, and premium full-grain leather secured with individual brass tacks.

Authentication relies on examining the frame construction for traditional joinery, assessing the patina and wear patterns on the leather, and checking for hand-beaten or individually applied brass nail heads rather than modern upholstery strips.

Pairing this traditional seating with minimalist modern architecture, neutral textured rugs, and contemporary lighting creates a balanced juxtaposition between historical craftsmanship and modern design.

Maintain the leather by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources, dusting regularly, and applying specialized leather conservation balms periodically to prevent drying and cracking.
