North-West Persian rugs are characterised by their robust geometric motifs, often featuring bold medallions, Herati patterns, and rich saturated colour palettes derived from natural dyes.

These rugs are traditionally hand-knotted using handspun wool for both the pile and foundation, sometimes incorporating cotton for warps and wefts, secured with vegetable-dyed wool yarns.

Authenticity is identified through irregularities in weave and symmetry, natural colour variations known as abrash, hand-spun wool textures, and traditional village or nomadic knotting techniques.

An antique rug adds texture and warmth to contemporary spaces by anchoring minimalist furniture, contrasting against clean architectural lines, or layering over neutral hardwood floors.

Preservation involves regular gentle vacuuming without beater bars, professional hand washing every few years, using breathable rug underlays, and avoiding direct, prolonged exposure to harsh sunlight.
