FAQs

An 18th century oak dresser base is a traditional utilitarian cabinet featuring a flat top surface, drawers, and lower cupboards, originally used in country houses for food preparation and storage.

These pieces were typically constructed from solid English oak using traditional joinery methods such as hand-cut mortise and tenon joints, pegged frames, and hand-dovetailed drawer construction.

Authenticity is identified through period-appropriate tool marks, timber shrinkage, hand-forged iron or brass hardware, mismatched grain patterns, and signs of genuine age and oxidisation.

It can be integrated into contemporary spaces by pairing it with minimalist decor, modern art, or neutral tones to create a balanced contrast between old and new textures.

Preservation involves maintaining stable indoor humidity levels, avoiding direct sunlight, and periodically feeding the wood with natural beeswax while avoiding harsh chemical cleaners.
