Description

A wonderful antique Georgian period inlaid mahogany sideboard. This was made in England, it dates from around the 1790’s period.

It is very well made and is a lovely size, with lots of storage space inside the deep drawers. The drawer fronts have beautifully inlaid borders, this has a bow front shaped and sits on tapered legs that terminate in spade feet.

We have had this recently re-polished, the condition is very good for its age. There is just some minor wear and minor marking beneath the polish here and there, commensurate for age.

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

The Georgian style spans the reigns of the first four Georges, characterised by classical proportions, symmetry, and the evolving influence of master cabinetmakers like Thomas Sheraton and George Hepplewhite.

Cabinetmakers predominantly utilised solid mahogany and imported tropical hardwoods, often featuring intricate satinwood stringing, hand-cut dovetail joints, and secondary woods such as oak or pine for drawer linings.

Authenticity is determined by examining construction markers such as hand-cut dovetails, timber shrinkage patterns, period-correct brass hardware, and the natural patina developed on the wood over centuries.

Pairing historical wooden furniture with modern minimalist art, clean lighting, and neutral walls creates a balanced interior scheme that highlights the rich grain and craftsmanship of the antique.

Maintain antique wooden surfaces by keeping them away from direct sunlight and heat sources, and treat them periodically with traditional beeswax to nourish the timber without damaging the finish.
