Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Nineteenth-century Scottish furniture frequently incorporates robust proportions, heavy timbers, and distinctive architectural columns or bobbin-turned pilasters inspired by classical and vernacular traditions.

These pieces were typically constructed from solid native timbers such as pine or hardwood, featuring hand-cut dovetail joints on the drawers and applied decorative wood turnings.

Authenticity is identified through construction characteristics such as hand-cut dovetailing, handmade iron or brass fixings, timber shrinkage patterns, and the natural wear consistent with age.

A dark painted piece serves as a strong focal point in a bedroom or hallway, pairing well with neutral walls, minimalist lighting, and natural textures to balance the historical weight.

Preservation requires dusting with a soft, dry cloth, avoiding chemical cleaning agents that can damage the historic paint finish, and maintaining stable room humidity and temperature.
