William Blake was a seminal figure of the Romantic Age, renowned for his visionary approach to poetry and printmaking, developing unique relief etching techniques that merged text and image.

Period engravings were typically executed using copper or steel plates, inked by hand and pressed onto handmade laid or wove paper using traditional mechanical rolling presses.

Authentic antique engravings exhibit plate marks impressed into the paper, fine tonal lines created by the burin, and characteristic paper ageing such as mild oxidisation and watermarks appropriate to the period.

Pair the monochrome artwork with neutral walls and subtle task lighting, utilizing a simple traditional frame to anchor the historic piece within a contemporary or classic study.

Protect antique prints from direct sunlight to prevent fading, frame them using acid-free materials with UV-filtering glass, and maintain stable indoor humidity levels to avoid paper degradation.
