How do I clean brass inlay?

My grandfather left me an old desk with a sloping front and little wooden stars on the lid, so is there an easy way to fix the sticky drawers?

Pull the drawer out completely and rub a block of paraffin wax along the bottom edges. This reduces friction without damaging the timber.
