Description

Size: 8ft 6in x 5ft 7in (260 x 170cm).

Antique South West Persian Kashkuli Qashqai rug with millefleur prayer design.

Circa 1900.

A very attractive rug by the Kashkuli sub tribe of the Qashqai. The rug is of the well known and sought after millefleur prayer design, the red ground is flanked by two Cyprus trees and the field is filled with floral blooms emerging from the central vase. The border is of a classic Kashkuli design.

The rug has very slight even wear and full pile, both ends retain the original end finishes. The rug is in near perfect condition with no repairs.

The rug has been hand washed and is ready for use or display. The rug is suitable for normal domestic use.

A Qashqai millefleur prayer rug is a hand-knotted wool textile woven by nomadic Qashqai tribes of southwestern Persia. The design is characterised by a central arch motif, or mihrab, filled with an intricate pattern of hundreds of small blossoms and floral sprays.
