Bertram & Son Painted Pedestal Desk

Description

A wonderful mid 19th Century pedestal desk by William Bertram and Son of 100 Dean street, Soho, London. C.1840

Three short drawers above knee hole centre, flanked by two cupboard doors with fine embellished gilt and moulded decoration.

Fitted with crisp brass mechanism, knobs and hinges stamped with Hodges’s. This English Pine desk retains its charming original serial number of ‘573’ on the back.

The firm of William Bertram & Son were established in C.1830 and trading on Dean Street from 1839, in 1878 the firm expanded to 100, 101 Dean street and finally ceased trading in 1902.
